Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain (MAMAC) (Museum of Modern Art and Contemporary Art)

At the end of the Promenade du Paillon towards the Palais des Congrès Nice Acropolis, this impressive building can be recognized by its high grey walls which makes of the museum one of the most beautiful modern buildings in Nice. Inside, discover the permanent collection which retraces the art history from 1950 until today, and temporary exhibitions.
Until October 15th 2017, go to see the exhibition about the very prolific artistic life in Nice during the period 1947-77 “Ecole(s) de Nice” (“School(s) of Nice”).

  • by bus, take the no. 22 towards Défly at the stop Masséna / Guitry and get off at the stop Défly (4 minutes, 3 stops), then 2 minute walk ;

  • by tram, get on at the stop Masséna (towards Hôpital Pasteur) and get off at the stop Garibaldi (5 minutes, 3 stops), then 2 minute walk.

 

2. Musée Matisse (Matisse Museum)

Two steps from the antic arenas of Cimiez, discover the wonderful villa that hosts the Matisse Museum. Devoted to the famous painter Henri Matisse, who felt in love with the city of Nice and the French Riviera, this museum contains not less than 600 of his works. It represents one of the biggest collections of Matisse in the world then.
The museum is located in a vast olive grove, a real haven of peace perfect to stroll and to relax after the visit.

Access from the hotel : by bus, you can take :

  • the no. 17 towards Monastère / Cimiez at the stop Masséna / Guitry and get off at the stop Arènes / Musée Matisse (15 minutes, 14 stops) ;

  • the no. 15 towards Rimiez at the stop Masséna / Guitry and get off at the stop Arènes / Musée Matisse (17 minutes, 13 stops).

 

3. Villa Masséna

This splendid villa from the 19th century, heritage from the Belle Epoque and classified as a historic monument, has been the Masséna Museum since 1921.
A few steps from the Best Western Plus Hotel Masséna Nice and from Place Masséna, the museum displays the history of Nice from the French Revolution until the Second World War, going through the Belle Epoque, which really shaped the modern Nice. You will know everything there is to know about the history of the beautiful city of Nice when you’ll go out from this museum, and you’ll be charmed by the sumptuous building overlooking the Promenade des Anglais.

  • by bus, take the no. 3, 7, 9/10, 22, 27, 59 or 70 at the stop J. Médecin / Hôtel des Postes (behind the hotel) and get off at the stop Rivoli (5 minutes, 2 stops), then 2 minute walk.

 

4. Musée des Beaux-Arts (Fine Arts Museum)

Ancient villa of which the construction was sponsored by the Russian princess Elisabeth Vassilievna Kotchoubey and her husband Léon Kotchoubey in 1878, it hosts the Museum of Fine Arts of Nice on its two floors today.
Discover a whole part of art history, from the artists of the 16th century like Jan Brueghel the Elder until the impressionists and modern artists of the 20th century like Claude Monet or Marie Laurencin.

Access from the hotel : by bus, take the no. 38 towards Résidence des Baumettes at the stop Alberti and get off at the stop Musée Chéret (9 minutes, 12 stops).

 

5. Musée Marc Chagall

Inaugurated while the artist was still alive, in 1973, this museum, first named “National Museum of the Biblical Message Marc Chagall” because of the only presence of the 17 paintings of Chagall devoted to the Bible, has become “National Museum Marc Chagall” after the acquisition of several other artist’s works.
